Erin & Brian

I cannot tell you how refreshing it was to take pictures of these guys Saturday! They were married in a small ceremony in Lafayette Square, and since their reception didn't start until later in the afternoon we had almost 3 hours to take pictures afterwards!
They left it up to me to take them around to different spots for pictures. Of course we had to hit Forsyth Park where we took the majority of pictures, and for the first time the Fragrant Garden was actually open and we were able to go inside for some shots. That was pretty cool. And then we headed to St. John's Episcopal to borrow their loggia, which has become one of my favorite places for portraits. I've always lucked out and not interrupted any other event going on at the church or the Green-Meldrim House, though I did run into Chrissy Hall shooting a wedding there last year. I'm sure I'll be kicked off the property some day. But until then...
The reception was at the Marshall House, one of my favorite places downtown. Love their sesame chicken! In an effort to branch out with my eating habits (I'm the complete opposite of my vegetarian wife and son), for the first time I ate tomato with fresh mozzarella and balsamic vinegar. Not really my thing. BUT, note to anyone planning a menu: stay away from gruyere fondue, it smells horrible.

More Randomness

Mother's Day Weekend

What a nice weekend to be off! I could get used to that! Though I do wonder why it wasn't me shooting that wedding in Telfair Square? But it was great having free time with the family unit.
We had lunch at Soho South, just like we did last weekend, too. Sat at the same table and had the same waiter. I even ate the same thing: the Cuban panini is delish! Abigail ran around the whole time taking pictures. She loves the bikini lady hanging from the ceiling (a mannequin for those who have never been, lest one wonders what kind of restaurant has almost naked ladies hanging from the ceiling).
After lunch we visited the Jepson Center. I had been wanting to see the photographs of Frida Kahlo. I can't help but wonder if those pictures had been taken in the digital age, would they ever have survived the delete button? Whenever I'm editing pictures I delete anything that's not tack sharp. Why keep it? It's blurry. Sure as anything if I don't delete it someone will order a wall portrait of it. But recently I've seen lots of photographers' blurry mistakes in magazines. At least they look like mistakes to me. Yes, I admit it looks artistic sometimes to have a little blur, but that's just not me. If you're a bride looking for artistic blurry pictures, I am not the photographer for you. Having said that, how many pictures from your childhood are blurry or your eyes are closed or half your head is cut off? What if those pictures had been deleted?

Ann & George

Here's a peek at last weekend's wedding in Darien! What a cute little town!
Ann & George were married at St. Andrew's Episcopal, and the park just outside was wonderful for taking pictures. The reception was on the deck of Skipper's right on the river. It was such a perfect night for an outside reception! No rain and just the right amount of breeze coming off the water. The deck was tented beautifully, and since it was the day of the Kentucky Derby of course there were mint juleps! The best part may have been the all-you-can-eat boiled peanuts! That's almost as good as all-you-can-eat M&Ms!
I know you guys are enjoying 3 weeks in Fiji... I'm totally jealous! I'm sure George is probably training for his next Ironman!

Tiffany & Jim

I had so much fun with this couple Friday afternoon! They're from Boston & despite knowing nothing about Savannah decided to get married here! Cool!
We wandered around downtown looking for great stuff, and they were so open to everything I suggested. I love when a couple puts pictures as the top priority and cooperates and know they actually have to be present for great shots.
WARNING: RANT ALERT! RANT ALERT! It always amazes me when people say that the pictures are the most important part of the wedding and how they want fabulous pictures and then aren't ready on time. And then they want to get to the reception and party and don't want to spend the extra time making up for the pictures we didn't get to take because they were late. How do they expect to have amazing pictures if they're not ready when they're supposed to be taking their pictures? Yes, you actually have to be in the pictures to have great pictures. I can't add you in later. END OF RANT.
Sorry, Tiffany & Jim, that your post was chosen for me to get some things off my chest. It was just so refreshing to have a couple who actually wanted to invest the time in their pictures. I know Tiffany is checking the blog so I hope you enjoy!
