Kristi, Brad & Colton

I had a great engagement/family session yesterday with these guys! Kristi and Brad brought along their one-year old son to get into a few of the shots since it was his birthday. Happy Birthday, Colton! He had the best personality and we got some great shots of him. I can't wait for the wedding because these two are naturals! I didn't have to give any direction, they just snuggled in and cracked each other up! It's going to be a great wedding!

Photo Safari

OK, so pictures of the kids in the park didn't work out for me this past weekend. Nor did First Saturday. I was very lazy, watched a lot of DVDs and ate really bad food, and I make no apologies for any of it. I did take Jarrod to get his hair cut, so that got me out of the house for about an hour.
So Sunday was my picture-taking day. I knew I wanted to visit Midway and take some shots of the old church and museum and cemetery (who doesn't love cemeteries?), and since I live outside of the city I knew I wanted to take a route other than I-16 and I-95 to get there. Surely at least one of the old country roads around me would make it to Midway, right? So I loaded up my cameras (I actually shot medium format film!) and headed out a road I had no idea where it lead. Which would've been fine had I had a map in the car. I could've used my iPhone to find out which way to go, but like everywhere else I am 90% of the time I had no coverage (but of course the smallest towns I went through gave me a signal, unlike at my house or work). Anyway, after about 100 miles and a lot of cow pastures I made it to Midway in time for some great afternoon light.
I did take along a digital camera for instant gratification while I wait for the film to get back from the lab. Shooting film is a novelty for me. My perfect vacation would be driving cross-country looking for great spots to shoot. I've always pictured rolls and rolls of medium format film in my camera bag.  I really miss my Hasselblad, but honestly I would just slap a digital back on it rather than shoot film and have to wait. We've all been spoiled by seeing our results instantly. I couldn't go back to shooting film all the time.
